Brown began his career as a TV art director, a truck driver, and a college professor. In 1976, he published his first Arthur book, Arthur’s Nose. His works include the Arthur Adventure series, Arthur audiobooks, beginner books, chapter books, Good Sport chapter books, and more.

One of the spinoff TV series he executive produced was Postcards from Buster from 2004 to 2008. In addition to his Daytime Emmy Awards, Brown also won CINE Competition Golden Eagle Awards in 2006 for Arthur.
